It can be taught as part of a broader Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) curriculum or as part of a \u2018transition-specific\u2019 programme in Years 5-9.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this, <strong>.<\/strong><strong>breathe<\/strong> offers an opportunity for both the teacher and students to \u2018dip their toes in mindfulness\u2019, exploring the ways in which this might support them through the highs and lows of adolescent life.<\/p>\n<h3>In particular, .breathe explores issues around:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Working with the capacity of attention; exploring how we can work with a wandering mind.<\/li>\n<li>Why humans worry, and how to support ourselves when we do so.<\/li>\n<li>Sleep \u2013 why it is important and what to do if we struggle to sleep well.<\/li>\n<li>Being with others \u2013 the opportunities and challenges of working skilfully with friendships and other relationships, both in person and online.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Each session includes:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Exploration of the function and structure of key areas of the brain involved in daily experience<\/li>\n<li>Introductory mindfulness practices<\/li>\n<li>Animations<\/li>\n<li>Discussions<\/li>\n<li>Exercises they can try in their own time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sessions are designed to last between 30 minutes and one hour, to be delivered once a week for four weeks during the period leading up to the end of the final years of primary school or during the first years at secondary school.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30642 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/breathe-logo-300x164.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/breathe-logo-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/breathe-logo-768x419.png 768w, https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/breathe-logo-1024x559.png 1024w, https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/breathe-logo-31x17.png 31w, https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/breathe-logo.png 1753w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/h2>\n<div class=\"course-outline-section\" style=\"border: none; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-top: 10px;\">\n<h2>Frequently Asked Questions &#8230;<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/h2>\n<div class=\"course-structure\">\n<div class=\"course-structure-section\">\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-title\">How is .breathe different to MiSP\u2019S Paws b and .b courses?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"course-structure-section-arrow\" src=\"https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/themes\/misp-lander-edge\/assets\/icons\/arrow-red.svg\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-content\">\n<p><strong>.<\/strong><strong>breathe <\/strong>is very much a \u2018dipping your toes in mindfulness\u2019 course, consisting of a few very simple mindfulness practices (mainly guided through animations and pre-recorded guided practices), neuroscience and social and emotional learning,<\/p>\n<p>Whilst <strong>.breathe <\/strong>is a stand-alone programme it can provide a useful segue following on from <strong>Paws b<\/strong> at primary school or into <strong>.b<\/strong> at secondary level \u2013 a \u2018dipping your toe\u2019 in mindfulness before the more extensive mindfulness training in <strong>.b<\/strong> and <strong>Paws b<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For those who have already been taught the <strong>Paws b<\/strong> course, <strong>.breathe<\/strong> provides a link between <strong>Paws b<\/strong> (primary level) and <strong>.b<\/strong> (secondary level). While some key themes seen in <strong>Paws b<\/strong> and <strong>.b<\/strong> are explored, there is also more specific content and activities around issues known to be of particular importance to transition years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section\">\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-title\">Who can train to Teach .breathe?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"course-structure-section-arrow\" src=\"https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/themes\/misp-lander-edge\/assets\/icons\/arrow-red.svg\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-content\">\n<p>Anyone involved in working with students between the ages of 9 and 14 years can train to teach <strong>.breathe<\/strong>. For example, they could be a primary school class teacher or a member of staff from the secondary school working with this age group or someone leading sessions as part of the school\u2019s broader Personal, Health, Social and Economic Education (PSHE) curriculum in Years 5-9.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, those involved in a school\u2019s \u2018transition\u2019 programme for those moving from primary to secondary school would be particularly well-suited to the course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong> Only those attending the one-day MiSP <strong>Teach .breathe<\/strong> training course are then approved to teach it.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Teach .breathe<\/strong> course involves training to teach the curriculum to pupils, but <em><u>not to provide any form of teacher training for adults<\/u><\/em> (i.e. training others to teach the <strong>.breathe<\/strong> course).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section\">\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-title\">How do I train to Teach .breathe?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"course-structure-section-arrow\" src=\"https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/themes\/misp-lander-edge\/assets\/icons\/arrow-red.svg\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-content\">\n<p><strong>.<\/strong><strong>breathe<\/strong> involves a one-day training course with a number of objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To explore key themes and exercises involved in the course.<\/li>\n<li>For teachers to experience the lessons in \u2018real time\u2019. This gives time to discuss the pedagogy of each lesson and how it can best be taught to a group of young people in different settings.<\/li>\n<li>The course also offers an outstanding introduction to the possibilities of mindfulness in the classroom from the UK\u2019s leading provider.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section\">\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-title\">I am a .b\/Paws b trained teacher, do I need to attend a .breathe training to teach it?<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"course-structure-section-arrow\" src=\"https:\/\/mindfulnessinschools.org\/wp-content\/themes\/misp-lander-edge\/assets\/icons\/arrow-red.svg\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"course-structure-section-content\">\n<p>As someone who has already met prerequisites for, and gone through an extensive training in, <strong>.b\/Paws b<\/strong>, you do not have to attend the <strong>.breathe<\/strong> training to teach the course.
